Chelsea Cotton Hand Towels
Chelsea Cotton Hand Towels
Plain weave can be anything but plain. One way to maximize the impact of your rigid heddle loom is to incorporate thick and thin yarns in your projects. Here, the warp is 8/2 cotton is threaded at 12.5 EPI. The weft is both the 8/2 and a thicker worsted weight cotton, alternated. The effect gives you delightful little squares of thick cotton framed in smaller 8/2 thread borders. The finished towels give you the absorbency of thick worsted weight cotton without the bulk.
To make them extra special, a simple overshot pick up pattern adds interest to the edges.
There is so much to play with and discover with this pattern and the best part : they weave quickly so you can make them for everyone you know. This fabric structure would also make thirsty beach towels and luxurious spa robes.
Equipment: Rigid Heddle Loom, minimum 24” (pattern can be adapted to smaller looms!), Size 12.5 heddle
